Bill Does Everest!

The First Day Trekking

Well the group gathered at 3:30am for the coach to take is to Ramechhsp Airport. It took us four hours to get there. The last hour was memorable with winding mountain roads, steep cliff drops and in some parts, the road was completely unfinished. The coach squeaked as it bounced around but the Nepal driver managed to get us there safely and on time. After coffee and bananas, we headed for check in and the weighing of bags. The 15kg limit had been the subject of many conversations but all the Group managed to get through; albeit Helen offered me some space as I was over by 1.5kg. I put it down to the baby wipes! 😂.  The topic soon turned to ‘the flight’ and many of the group were nervous of landiing into the most dangerous airport in the world, Lukla! After the traditional group photo, we boarded our Summit propeller plane for a 20 min spectacular flight through the Himalyas. Landing, well the plane came in ‘hot’ and before we knew it was taxiing. Brunch was definitely in order to prepare us to commence the trek of a mere 7km to Phakding at 2610m. Along the way we encountered Yaks, people riding horses, donkeys and Nepal people running up/down the trail with huge packages. How they do it, defies logic. One guy had a pair of sliders on compared to our group that had all the latest gortex ankle boots.  Suspension bridges were in abundance crossing high above gorges. The  ‘bouncing‘ around brought about a few sweaty palms. 🤣

We arrived at the tea house just in resdiness to order dinner. But there was one hot shower and a few of us managed to get at least smelling ok for the rest of the evening. Conversation flowed over dinner but the bed bug/lice conversations made me scratch. 🤣 Ok the beds arent the best but sure  it will get worse the higher we are up.!! 🤣 I was last to bed. Everyone was tired but somehow I was wide awake. It had nothing to do with the coffee consumption that was flowing all day. Hey I was told off for having a beer by our guide so had to drink something! So just going to get my head down for the 15km/7 hour trek to Namche Bazar and the game on the highest pool table in the world (and its in an Irish ☘️ pub) 😂😂
